About the virus and the disease – Public Health Agency

The vaccine protects both you and others

Misconception: It is not so dangerous to get Covid-19 if you don’t belong to a risk group.

Facts: Anyone can suffer from severe symptoms, although it is more common among risk groups. Even if you avoid a serious course of the disease, Covid-19 can be very difficult to have. The disease can also lead to troublesome long-term effects (such as reduced fitness or a loss of smell and taste) which result in a poorer quality of life. Infected people who have mild symptoms may also infect others who could be more severely affected.

HOW TO REASON WITH SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN THIS MYTH

– I don’t need to get vaccinated because I wouldn’t get particularly ill anyway.

– The disease can be tough and in the worst case life-threatening for anyone who gets it.

There is a perception that all young and healthy people always only get mild cold symptoms but that is not true.

But X got Covid-19 and didn’t think it was tough at all?

There are examples of people of all different ages who only get a mild course of the disease, but that does not mean that this is the case for everyone.

The disease can be troublesome and cause long-term symptoms, even when it is not life-threatening.

If you get vaccinated, you reduce the risk of infecting loved ones who might be severely affected by Covid-19.
